The School of Veterinary Science is based in the Faculty of Medical and Veterinary Sciences and consequently enjoys comparative educational and research links with the Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.

In the last Subject Review (a quality assurance exercise undertaken by the Quality Assurance Agency in 1999), the School was awarded a maximum score of 24 for all aspects of its teaching and learning provision. In the recent RAE (2008), the School scored well in 2 and 3 star publications, reflecting international excellence in it's research.

Southwell StreetThe School occupies two sites, one is located at Southwell Street on the Bristol campus and is the focus for preclinical and basic science teaching. The following departments have preclinical teaching responsibilities in Veterinary Science and related programmes:

The second site is the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science (Langford House) which is situated 14 miles south of the City and is the base for clinical teaching and welfare research. Langford Veterinary Services operates the animal hospitals and first opinion veterinary practices for the University.

The breadth of the School's teaching and research interests enables it to offer a range of veterinary-related degree courses, in addition to the degree in veterinary science. These include: Veterinary Nursing and Practice Administration; Anatomical Science with Veterinary Anatomy; Animal Behaviour and Welfare; Veterinary Pathogenesis. A taught MSc in Meat Science and Technology is also available. Teaching is provided by departments in the Schools of Medicine and Biological Sciences in Bristol, as well as the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science at Langford.

Bristol welcomes applications from suitably qualified sixth formers, graduates, mature and overseas students. Opportunities are also available for studying higher degrees by research.

A number of Continuing Education / Continuing Professional Development courses are available for veterinary graduates throughout the year.
